Well, I’ve got to start somewhere, so why not kill two birds with one stone by blogging? To comment on side hustles, I need a place to write about them, hence this blog.
In my opinion, blogging as a side hustle is oversaturated. Every post you see on Pinterest leads to someone’s blog. So, to be honest, I’m not sure why anyone would read mine, but it’s always worth a try, right?
As a bit of background, I don’t have much time to spend on blogging or a side hustle—perhaps half an hour here and there per day. I’m currently on maternity leave, but I’m due to return to my part-time job (8 a.m. to 1 p.m.) in a month, so I’ll have even less time. Even when I do have time, I want to manage the blog from my phone, as getting my laptop out and setting it up at the table is just not feasible. Therefore, I need to be able to do everything from my phone.
The first place I started was with Grok. I typed in “How to start a blog using your iPhone?”. It suggested downloading a blogging app such as WordPress, Wix or Blogger. I started exploring Wix but couldn’t get the hang of it. Next, I downloaded the WordPress app. I spent ages trying to find a theme and then began writing the About section. Around the same time, a Pinterest post caught my eye: “How to Start a Blog in 15 Minutes.” This led me to the blog Making Sense of Cents (the name is great, by the way). The author noted that it’s unlikely you’ll make money using WordPress.com, which is what I had set up – more details can be found on her page (see link above). So, I set up a WordPress.org account, which enables self-hosting, and linked it to Bluehost.
Over the past few days, I’ve been experimenting with themes and settings on my WordPress.org blog. I must admit, I have no idea what I’m doing and am just winging it. It’s starting to look like something I’d enjoy reading, so I think it’s time to bite the bullet and publish it. I can always keep learning as I go and make adjustments as needed – watch this space!
